When we do get some good weather our outside spaces become really important to us. Being able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, whether it is with a cup of tea, something a little stronger, or eating alfresco are all high up on the wish list. Having a usable, attractive space, big or small is worth its weight in gold.

Pergolas

Pergolas are a brilliant way of zoning a garden, creating a stylish seating area that can also provide some shade on a hot Summer’s day.

They are a great idea in any garden or courtyard. A cover or roof can also be added so that the space can be used come rain or shine; definitely a sensible idea with our usual weather here in Wales!

Adding patio heaters, fire pits or outdoor log burners makes for lots of enjoyable open air evenings.

Outdoor Kitchen

Outdoor kitchen spaces are also a brilliant idea if you plan on entertaining friends or even just BBQing for the family. There are so many ways that an outdoor kitchen can be built and you really can achieve so many different looks from luxury to rustic. Lots of different finishes can be used whether wooden, rendered, tiled, steel or aluminium, the choice is yours.

A DIY option is definitely achievable but there are now many ‘off the shelf’ versions on the market too and of course the option is always there to have it built to your own specifications. You can add shelving, storage, a sink and even electrics, which gives you so much scope and there is then the brilliant option of adding the mini fridge for keeping the drinks cool whilst you cook or sit back in the Pergola and watch the cooking being done for you!

Outdoor Shower

If, like us, you are close to the sea and days spent on the beach are not uncommon, an outdoor shower is a brilliant idea.

A shower can be installed, hot and cold feeds run outside and an enclosure added (if you are shy, that is!?). Hanging rails for drying the wetsuits, towels and swimsuits are a real bonus and it’s useful for washing muddy paws too!

If you do have lots of space in your garden, zoning your spaces to provide a dining area, seating area, somewhere to enjoy the sunshine and somewhere to seek shade are going to be important.

Everyone uses their own spaces differently and it’s important to reflect on this before planning how your space will work best for you.
